
When it opened its doors
in 1952, the Research Institute of Medical Entomology (RIME) was originally named
"The Laboratories of Medical Entomology". It was established to fulfil many
ambitious goals, namely:
- Studying and conducting research on the epidemiology of
diseases transmitted by insect vectors
- Studying and conducting research on disease vectors and
rodents and their control methods
- Testing public health and household pesticides in the
laboratory and field prior to its registration at the Ministry of Health
- Evaluating the susceptibility level of various public health
pests to pesticide in use
- Evaluating the toxicity of pesticides
- Providing technical consultations in the field of vector
control
- Training personnel of the Ministry of Health working in the
field of vector control and trainees from other countries in cooperation with the World
Health Organization (WHO)
In its 49 years of operation, RIME has positioned itself as a
unique research center in the region and continues to provide invaluable services to the
health sector in Egypt.
