The Organization & The Secretariat                                              
In 1975, the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes (GOTHI) was established by the presidential decree number 1002. The organization hence acted as one of the scientific establishments which implement the law number 69, 1973 concerning the regulation of scientific research and as a major teaching and healthcare establishment.

     The organization has a Board of Directors and a General Secretariat planning and making decisions on the policies and steps to be taken towards realizing the above mentioned goals. Currently, his excellency Prof. Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag Eldin,  the Minister of health and population is the chairman of GOTHI while Prof. Dr. Abdel Hamid Omar Abaza is the General Secretary.

The goals of the organization are summarized as follows:

  • To contribute substantially to the provision of medical care to citizens in accordance with the national health policy and continually working towards improving the quality of this care in all specialties.
  • To provide a new generation of medical professionals with integrated and complete training and medical education in order for them to enact their role in health care
  • To allocate and provide the facilities, equipment and training necessary for medical research in order for it to contribute to the wellness of the population
  • To promote and pursue preventive medical practices for the betterment of health in the population

GOTHI publishes a number of medical journals through its many units and a general one under the name GOTHIMED (more information here).
